Sheffield History
Sheffield has an interesting and varied history. People have lived here for over 12,800 years, Castle Market was established in 1296 and Sheffield was even cited by Geoffrey Chaucer for its production of knives in his book, The Canterbury Tales.
If you were to ask anybody about the things they associate with Sheffield history, they would probably say 'steel' or 'industry.' Sheffield was famous the world over for its steel industry and some of the books in this section go into a lot of detail about Sheffield during this industrial time.
Sheffield became a target for bombing raids during WW2 and more information can be found on this subject in out War and Military books section. This is because many of Sheffield's factories put their efforts into the manufacturing of weapons and ammunition.
This is a very brief history of Sheffield. To find out more, have a browse around and see if you can find a Sheffield history book that excites you...

He describes in great detail how children dealt with boredom and lack of money. This is a book you can't put down and easy to read over and over again."
