Sheffield achieved surprising renown in the early 19th century as a town of poets and writers. Two of these, James Montgomery and Ebenezer Elliott, are amongst the select few to be commemorated by statues in the city.
This is the first ever anthology of the many poems and verses which have been written, mainly by local people, about their town and the events which shaped it. Some of the verses are well-known though most will be unfamiliar since they have never been published in this form before.
There is something here to amuse, delight, surprise and bewilder all those who share a love of the unique character of this historical city.
